2. Type of freight 2009

Over the years, the Port of Iquique has specialized in containerized cargo, representing 77,9% of the total transferred during 2009.

The transfer of such a high load growth year on year, increasing by more than 11,39% between 2000 and 2009, equivalent to 907.279 tonnes.

The containers had mobilized a substantial growth in recent years, reaching 334,326 TEUs in 2008, which has meant an increase of 214% for the year 2000, equivalent to 229,781 teus (20).
