The Port Company Iquique (EPI Empresa Portuaria Iquique) was created the 20 of april of 1998 under the protection of the Law 19.542 “Redevelopment of the state port area” which was promulgated on december 19, 1997.

EPI is a state-owned company, with own assets, of a indefinite duration and related to the Government throught the Ministery of Public Works, Transportation and Telecomunications. (Art. 2 Law 19.542)

The Company’s goal is the administration, running, development and maintance of the Port of Iquique and their terminals, as well as possesing the property for any purpos. Including all the activities associeted with the port level are essential for the proper performance of this . (Art. 7 Law 19.542).

The administration of the company carries a directory of three persons appointed by the President and is also composed of one representative of the workers, which only has a right to speak. (Art. 24 Law 19,542).

The directory has appointed a CEO of his own confidence, which is responsible for implementation of agreements on this and the ongoing monitoring of the administration and operation of the company. (Arts. 37 and 38 Law 19,542).

The Company is subject to the financial, accounting and tax applicable to the joint-stock companies. (Art. 41 Law 19.542).
